FB: Sagamore sectional wrap up

Staff Report

It might not
have turned out the way everybody wanted, but the Sagamore Conference still
made a statement in the opening round of the sectional tournament. Four league
teams advanced to the second round while at least one other gave a good showing
against one of the legendary powers in Indiana football.

North
Montgomery used a late field goal to oust conference foe Western Boone 31-28.
The other three Sagamore wins came versus non-conference competition. League
champion Southmont had little trouble with West Vigo, shutting out the Vikings
23-0. Tri-West advanced with a 7-2 grinder over Greencastle. Finally, Frankfort
looked very impressive in downing Twin Lakes 32-7.

Crawfordsville
fell to Indianapolis Chatard 38-21. Make no mistake, for the 1-8 Athenians it
was a tremendous effort against the #1 ranked team in 3A. Lebanon also gave a
respectable performance versus the #1 team in 4A, Cathedral. The Irish
prevailed 47-15. The worst defeat suffered by a conference team belonged to
Danville. The Warriors fell to highly regarded Brebeuf 49-7.

Tri-West
will now advance to play North Putnam in 2A Sectional 30. Undefeated Monrovia
and South Putnam will vie in the opposite bracket. In 3A, Frankfort appears to
have the best road. The Hot Dogs will face Peru which advanced with only its
second win of the season. It will be Southmont’s turn to tangle with
Indianapolis Chatard and North Montgomery will face Brebeuf.

BSOC: Sectional wrap-up for Sagamore Conference

Staff Report

Crawfordsville
will carry the banner of the Sagamore Conference into regional play this
season. The Athenians are the only league team to claim a sectional title. They
did so Monday night by downing county rival Southmont 7-1. Southmont had
previously ousted North Montgomery.

Elsewhere in
the league, Frankfort suffered a heartbreaking loss to Lafayette Central
Catholic in the opening round at Lafayette, 1-0. Western Boone fell to
University 2-1 in the opening round at Zionsville and Lebanon soon joined them
on the sidelines after being blasted 7-0 by powerful Zionsville.

Tri-West
made it to the championship match at Brownsburg but fell to the hosts 5-0. The
Bruins had defeated Bethesda Christian 2-0 to reach the championship tilt.
Danville also felt heartbreak. They fell 1-0 to Plainfield on penalty kicks.
