FB: Tri-West Season Preview

Alex Kirby
HoosierAuthority.com

It was only four years ago that Tri-West was on top of the high school football world. The Bruins were coming off of two-straight 2A Titles, and everything was going their way. Since then, things have not quite been the same for the Hendricks County program. However, head coach Chris Coll feels that this group has the skills to take the next step.

“We return a number of our skilled position players, [including] our RB, 2 WR’s, and QB on offense.  We also return 3 starters in our Defensive Secondary.”

Jake Allen will lead the offense at QB, with help from RB Caleb Ross. At wideout, the Bruins return Jakob Wright and Andrew Keck. The biggest question surrounding the offense this season is how to replace four players on the offensive line. John Roberson is the single returning starter from last year’s unit up front on the line.

Defensively the Bruins will rely on All-Conference DT Drake Gadberry, as well as DB Caleb Ross in the secondary.

“We will need to fill holes in our Defensive Front,” says Coach Coll.

If the Bruins can find a way to reload quickly on both sides of the line, then things will definitely be looking up for Chris Coll and Company in 2008.

VB: Tri-West Season Preview

Alex Kirby
Hoosier Authority

A loss to Monrovia in the first round of last year’s sectionals ended Tri-West’s season in 2007. Stacey Rogers knows her team is bound for a lot more.

“I feel like we’re getting stronger every year,” said Rogers.

A talented corps of players from the upper classes will hold the team together, featuring seniors Kayli Roseboom, Jesse Janson, and Cindy Bondy. Juniors Aubrey Cook and Sam Ricks will also heavily contribute to the team’s success.

Competing in a difficult Sagamore Conference and a just as competitive sectional will give the Bruins quite a task in 2008, but Rogers feels her team is up to the challenge.

“I think a lot of girls remember what it feels like to lose in the sectional and they understand that hard work will lead to winning. This year, we just have exceptional attitudes and I think, exceptional skill. To find that on any team of girls is hard to do.”

GG: Sagamore Conference preview

Alex Kirby
Hoosier Authority

Crawfordsville head coach Darren Haas knows his team can be confident a year after taking home the Sagamore Conference Trophy. The top three players from last year’s squad return, including one of the state’s premier players in Stormy Staton.

“She’s a great kid,” said Haas. “She can be as good as she wants to be.”

Along with Staton, the Athenians return senior Mandy Johnson and sophomore Courtney Hamilton. Johnson also plays for the Lady Athenian basketball team.

Along with Crawfordsville, Danville and Tri-West should be the top contenders in the Sagamore Conference.

There is not a lot of space between the middle of the pack and the rest, as Western Boone, North Montgomery, and Southmont are only a few strokes away from catching up to Lebanon and Frankfort.

“We have six returning lettermen, but we need to improve on being consistent and managing the course,” said Southmont coach Phyllis Miller.

With so much talent returning to the Sagamore Conference in 2008, it should be an exciting race to the finish this fall!
