THE PAPER

LINDEN
– Drew Young’s hot bat combined with Isaac McGaughey’s power pitching
lifted North Montgomery’s baseball team to a blowout win.

Young
totaled team-highs of four hits and four RBI in the Chargers’ 14-4
five-inning win Tuesday over visiting Sagamore Athletic Conference
rival Tri-West.

He also scored two runs and stole a base.

Meanwhile, McGaughey (5-1) had little trouble on Senior Night. He recorded six strikeouts and allowed two walks.

McGaughey also scored three runs, had a hit and stole a base.

North
Montgomery (11-7, 7-3 SAC) stayed patient at the plate. The Chargers
drew nine walks and had four sacrifices. They finished with just seven
hits.

Junior Robert Hinds added three RBI, while junior Cody Nickle had two.

“We
keep talking to the players and telling them to just relax,” Chargers’
coach Matt Voorhees said. “Too many of them are trying to beat the game
itself. They’re overthinking things trying to figure out what they’re
doing wrong instead of just going up and playing the game. When we play
relaxed, we play well.”

Tyler Jackson, Chance Southard, Brandon Dale and McGaughey were honored during Senior Night.

North Montgomery next plays at 6 p.m. Thursday at Tri-West before a home game against North Putnam on Friday.
