BB: Tri-West holds off Monrovia

There is
nothing more frustrating, on either side, then a game where one team is always
in the lead but never by enough to make it comfortable.  The leading team can never relax and the
trailing squad has to deal with the frustration of dealing with all the what ifs.
So it was in Tri-West’s 47-44 sectional victory over Monrovia.

Tri-West
committed enough first half turnovers to put itself in serious trouble.
However, Monrovia could not find the range from the field, scoring only seven
points in the first 12 minutes of action. So, despite the sloppy offense, the
Bruins had a 17-7 lead late in the half and appeared on the way to a blowout.
Oops, a 10-0 Bulldog run suddenly tied the game just before halftime. So, the
Bruins went to the locker room knowing they had lost an opportunity, and the
Bulldogs went to the same location knowing if they had only shot well they
would be comfortably ahead.

In the
second half, Monrovia did just enough to stay close. That was mostly due to
Jordan Standeford who hit three consecutive three pointers in the fourth
quarter. Unfortunately for the Bulldogs, Tri-West had a hero of its own. Kendall
Lowe hit 10 of 10 fourth quarter free throws to negate Standeford’s heroics.

Poor
shooting was the key to both teams frustration on this night. Tri-West hit just
6 of 30 three point attempts while Monrovia shot just 25% from the field and
46% from the charity stripe for the evening. Lowe led Tri-West with 17 points.
The Bulldogs were led by 12 markers from junior Tim Conner/
