At this rate, Crawfordsville baseball coach John Froedge won’t
need to worry about wearing out the arms of his pitchers. It has taken the
Athenians only five innings to dispose of each of their last three opponents.
The latest victim was Sagamore Conference foe Tri-West. Crawfordsville blasted
the Bruins 11-1 Tuesday evening. The victory moves the Athenians to 5-2 on the
season and 1-0 in conference play.

Senior right-hander Andrew Swart held the Bruins in check to
pick up his third win of the season. The deciding inning came in the third when
the Athenians plated six runs to take a 9-0 lead. Swart was responsible for
putting the game under the ten run rule with a fifth inning double. Tyler Smith
took the loss for Tri-West.

Blake Harris and Justin Wright were the big hitters for
Crawfordsville on this night. Both went 2 for 3, and Wright included 2 RBIs in
his assault. However, the interesting aspect of Crawfordsville’s night on
offense was that the Athenians stole six bases in five innings. That weapon
displayed by a team everybody already knows has strong pitching is borderline
scary.

Tri-West remains winless on the season at 0-3 and fell to
0-1 in league play.
